Studios Transitioning from Larix to Union Broadcaster App
As of June of 2023, the Larix Broadcaster app made an update that requires a subscription of $9.99 in order for customers to stream without a watermark and cutting off a stream. Union wants you to have access to a streaming app that produces high quality livestreams for free. The answer, Union Broadcaster app!
The Union Broadcaster App was released in 2021. The app allows clients to sign in with their Union sign in credentials to make quick and easy setup. This would automatically sync their scheduled classes to the app. The engineering team was working on growing the app to accommodate studios who have a single device in the studio to avoid teachers needing to sign in and out of the app. Well folks, that time NOW!
FAQ's about moving to Union Broadcaster App if you're a studio on Union
Do all my teachers need access to livestream "all performances" in the Broadcaster App settings?
No, this is not necessary. When you download the app, the account that is used to sign in (typically an admin) can be the only account in your settings that is required to change.
I am an admin who signed into the app with my account. Will my teachers have access to my business details?
No, the sole purpose of the app is to stream classes. The access they will see in the app is the next class that's scheduled to livestream. Please be sure you have updated your Broadcaster App settings that will allow this view. This is not linked to any sensitive data (i.e. reports, payroll).
My teachers use Union's Streamboard to monitor the livestream and chat with their students. Will they need to sign in with my admin credentials in order to have access?
No, your teachers will still have access to view their stream when they're signed in to their Union account. The app is synced to a schedule. When teachers sign in on the Union browser, the view on their teacher dashboard will remain the same.
What about the stream key? Where do I add this?
Great news! There's no stream key! The magic is the Union Broadcaster app knows all the upcoming classes that are created as a livestream so there's no need for a stream key.
Will my replays still automatically be available in my replay library?
Yes! Just like Larix, your livestream will be available in your Unpublished folder ready for you to edit and make public.
Will I be charged to use and/or download the app?
Nope! The app is free to download and no in-app hidden fees. *Video usage fees still applied.
The Quick Setup
Step 1: Visit your Union Settings in your browser and click on Broadcaster App. Change your account so Can Livestream is updated to All Performances.
Step 2: Please visit your app store and install the Union Broadcaster app. Once downloaded, sign in with your Union credentials.
Step 3: Click Setup
You should see the next class available to stream
Continue to scroll and you'll see the next class that's scheduled to stream.
Step 4: Tap on the class that's ready to stream (you can begin the class 15 minutes before the scheduled class). Check your audio source and when you're ready to start your stream, click Start. If you need to exit out of the livestream, click Change at the top of your screen.
When your class is complete, click the grey button to Stop.
Step 5: To view your replay, visit Products > Replays just like before!
