Twilio Campaign (A2P 10DLC)

If you are looking to use the SMS integration with Customer.io, you will need to create a Twilio account. In order to send SMS and MMS messages to the U.S., all messages must be sent via an approved Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging using 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. Any unregistered U.S.-bound messages will be blocked.

What is A2P 10DLC? It is a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging using 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. Registering for A2P messaging will improve delivery quality and reduce filtering.

When picking a plan, we have found that the Low Volume Standard plan is suitable for most businesses needs at Union.


One-Time Campaign Process

Once you have selected your plan, you will be required to create a One-time Campaign Vetting process (A2P 10DLC). The A2P 10DLC provide better delivery quality and lower filtering risk than long code SMS of the past, using the same phone numbers. We've made it easy providing you details on how to create your campaign.

Approval Process

Once submitted, your Campaign undergoes a manual vetting process and has a pending  status. This process can take between two to three weeks to complete. Twilio will contact you if any additional information is required. Once approved, you are able to start sending A2P 10DLC messages and register additional Campaign use cases.

Some Campaign use cases require an additional carrier review, also known as carrier post-approval, before the Campaign registration can be approved. You can find a list of these special use cases in the Eligibility and Approval Process section of the Special Use Cases for A2P 10DLC support article.


Once you have been approved, you can follow the Customer.io integration to link your Twilio account.
