Importing a Marketing List
If you have an existing email list you'd like to import to Union so you can manage all of your marketing within Customer.io, it's simple. Uploading through Union ensures that you don't have any duplicates on your email list, and will ensure that any information for someone on your mailing list will be kept when they become a passholder or subscriber.
First, export a CSV file of your marketing list from your marketing provider. Next, in Union, visit Marketing > Upload List > Upload New Marketing List.
Give your list a name, then pick your provider, and upload the CSV export you previously downloaded from your provider. If you don't see your provider listed, click Custom on the marketing provider list. Please note that the columns must be identical to the format displayed (see below for exact text if preferred).
If you choose to upload your own list, you can click to Download our custom CSV. When you add your list this version, please do not change the columns. Simply drop the data from your list into the columns provided for you.
If you are going to create your own list, please be sure you are matching these columns identically.
Header format required (all lowercase)
- first_name
- last_name
- phone
If you are on a Apple product (i.e. MacBook Pro), please not use the default software, Numbers. This distorts the format and your import will fail. Union recommends using Google Sheets and exporting the file as a .csv to import into Union.
Once you've added your file, click Upload. You'll likely see a blue banner letting you know to check back. Please note that if you have a larger list, it may take longer for the upload to complete. You can also Refresh your screen.
When your upload is complete, you will be able to see how many were in the file you uploaded and how many were added. It is more than likely these numbers will not match. This is likely because the customer already has a Union account (system won't create a duplicate Customer.io account). When you click View, you can see the all the accounts that were either ingested (skipped) or published to Customer.io.
If you have selected one of Union's default lists that has not published your list, please try following the custom format path and please reach out to support@union.fit. Please tell us your provider and include your marketing list you are attempting to import.
