Attributes vs. Events in Customer.io

When building anything in Customer.io, you'll see you can add different types of conditions to help capture (or not) a specific group of people. Let's take a look at two of the most commonly used conditions with the Union and Customer.io integration.

Attributes

In Customer.io, attributes are pieces of data that you can associate with individual users or customer profiles. These attributes can be used to segment your audience and personalize the messages you send. Attributes could include information like a user's name, email address, subscription status, purchase history, or any other data relevant to your business or application.

Union, utilizes the Customer.io API to establish attributes. This integration allows you to manage and leverage your Union customer data effectively for personalized marketing and communication purposes.

Attributes can be a string, boolean or a number, and can be used to create data-driven segments or to include information in your emails.

You will also be able to use these attributes in emails that you send by typing {{customer.first_name}}  in your email. Any email can access a customer attribute, but event attributes are available only in event triggered emails.

Events

Events are actions people perform in Union, like button clicks or purchases. When an event is sent to Customer.io, these can start campaigns and segments to your users based on things they do or do not do. Some examples include:
