Passes/Subscripiton Fee's

Currently, fees are only applied to passes. To enable this feature, you need to edit the pass settings. Simply select the option labeled "Fees Outside". Once enabled, customers will be prompted to pay both the payment processing fee and Union's service fee at checkout.


Important Note:

This option is only available for passes and does not apply to subscriptions or any auto-renewing items.

Why This Option Isn't Available for Auto-Renewing Items

There are several reasons for not applying fees to subscriptions or auto-renewing payment types:

  1. Customer Experience: Subscribers expect the price they signed up for to remain consistent. Adding extra fees can feel unexpected and may lead to cancellations or disputes.
  2. Simplicity: Straightforward billing is key for subscriptions. Keeping fees bundled avoids confusion and makes the billing process smoother for customers.
  3. Retention Risks: Even small added fees can make customers reconsider their subscriptions, increasing churn and potentially costing you more than the fees themselves.
  4. Legal/Regulatory Concerns: In some states and regions, businesses are not allowed to pass credit card fees directly to customers or are subject to strict regulations on how this can be done. We ensure consistency and compliance across the board.
  5. Consistency with Industry Standards: Most subscription services (like Netflix or Hulu) include fees in their pricing. Customers are accustomed to this model, and deviating from it can make your offering seem less competitive.
  6. Customer Psychology: Even small fees can have a larger impact on customers' perception of value. A few extra dollars might seem insignificant, but it can greatly affect their decision to remain subscribed. That’s why we typically suggest applying fees to single passes, packs, and other pass types. This can also encourage customers to opt for recurring subscriptions instead.
